There’s a reason Fabric Structures have become the shelter solution of choice by many of the worlds leading mining and industrial companies. Advances in fabric technology and proof of use in the field, in some of the harshest environments, have significantly improved the confidence level attached to Fabric Shelters. In this article, we look at the advantages of Fabric Structures over steel buildings.
When Fabric is preferred over Steel
Fabric Structures supplied by DomeShelter Australia offer significant advantages to the end-user when compared with traditional steel buildings. Not all situations are necessarily conducive to a fabric structure, and there are cases when a steel building is still the preferred option. However, there are many situations in which a Fabric Structure is the best shelter solution.
-
Temporary shelter solution
Suppose the company does not own the land on which the structure is to be installed. In that case, they require an immediate shelter solution, and they have a definitive time to contract start, then a Fabric Structure can more often than not be the best option. Steel buildings are generally built for very long-term use when land tenure is not an issue, and the time to contract start is enough to account for the longer lead time associated with a steel building.
-
Cyclone Rated
Fabric Structures supplied by DomeShelter Australia are designed and engineered to withstand the wind speeds typically experienced in the shelter location, right up to severe cyclonic winds, found for instance in Australia’s north-west coastal region.
-
Timing
Our Fabric Structures are entirely manufactured off-site and delivered to site in kit form, with all the components required for installation. They are designed to be easily installed by first-time installers, often the clients’ own teams, alleviating the need for a skilled installation team generally required for a steel building. The time taken to install a Fabric Building can be from as little a few hours to a few days. In summary, one of the key attractions of a fabric shelter is the speed with which it can be ordered, delivered to site anywhere in the world and installed.
-
Modular
A Fabric Structure is modular, which means it can be modified post-installation to add to its length and connect with other similarly sized shelters to create multiple work bays. Just as it can be quickly and easily installed, it can also be dismantled and either relocated across or off-site to meet changing work conditions, or packed up after a project, and stored ready for use on the next project. It would not be unusual for a Shelter to be shifted 6-8 times during the lifetime of a project.
-
Working Environment
A Fabric Structure is known to be lighter, brighter and quieter than a steel alternative. The high-quality white fabric is generally translucent, absorbs sound and reflects light to provide a more pleasant working environment.
DomeShelter Australia Structures are now found in over 30 countries and are being used on some of the worlds most significant mining, industrial and oil & gas projects.
