Equatorial Launch Australia (ELA) has announced the immediate closure of the Arnhem Space Centre in the Northern Territory and its relocation to a new site in Cape York, Queensland.

Since its establishment, the Arnhem Space Centre has been a cornerstone of Australia’s growing space industry, serving as the nation’s first commercial spaceport. It gained global attention in 2022 when it hosted NASA’s historic rocket launches, cementing ELA’s role in advancing Australia’s presence in space exploration.

The proposed transition to Cape York underscores the value of relocatable infrastructure such as their DomeShelter™ Fabric Structures, in supporting the aerospace industry across regional Australia. DomeShelter Australia delivered two fit-for-purpose shelters to ELA designed for space vehicle development and testing, storage and warehousing in harsh conditions.

Working with ELA and other stakeholders including NASA, DomeShelter Australia provided a Rocket Motor Storage Shelter (17m x 36.6m) and a Vehicle Assembly & Testing Shelter (12.2m x 36.6m) with a relocatable and modular design. These shelters now offer a foundation for ELA’s new chapter in Cape York.

By enabling operations in areas where traditional infrastructure is unfeasible, relocatable shelters support the growth of industries like aerospace, mining, and construction, offering a pathway to more efficient operations.
