Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) owns and operates a network of purpose-built rail and port facilities in WA’s Pilbara region to support their expansive mining operations.
FMG’s railway currently services their Solomon, Cloudbreak and Christmas Creek mines.
An integral part of this network is Thomas Yard, Fortescue’s initial rail operations centre and locomotive workshop, located in Port Hedland.
FMG needed an additional workshop space to support operations at Thomas Yard. The Structure needed to be fully compliant with their strict site requirements and safety protocols. It also needed the size necessary to service large machinery.
DomeShelter Australia provided a 30m wide by 30.4m long Post Mounted DomeShelter™ Structure, with a truss roof to sufficiently support its large span. The Shelter is engineered to suit Port Hedland’s cyclonic wind conditions, located in Australian Wind Region D.
The Structure’s steel components are hot dip galvanised. It was customised on site to include containers lining the Shelter on either side; these containers are outfitted to serve as lockable storage space among other uses.
Fabric Structures are open and breathable, the semi-translucent Fabric Tarp creating a light, bright and cool working environment, protecting FMG’s people and assets from the harsh Pilbara sun.
The team on site couldn’t wait to get into the Shelter, they told us, commending DomeShelter for their “beautiful work”, “professional service”, and “safe and quality installation”.
