Murdoch University is one of the oldest universities in Western Australia, located in the suburb of Murdoch in Perth’s south.
In 2016, they sought a Shelter Solution to provide a protected seating area for a newly established pop-up food truck area. It needed to promise sufficient protection from the elements for patrons and assets, yet still be removable when no longer required; the pop-up eatery was set to be dismantled when renovations were finished on an existing cafeteria.
DomeShelter Australia were approached to provide a 12m wide by 18m long DomeShelter™ Structure to enclose the area. Mounted on steel posts, the Shelter featured translucent partial Endwalls for increased sunlight transmission to the inside. Sideblinds were utilised to fully enclose the Shelter for better weather protection, some of them able to be retracted to allow for entry into the space.
The DomeShelter™ Structure was used on site for the duration of the pop-up event, which lasted approximately five years. Once renovations were completed on the existing cafeteria, the DomeShelter™ Structure was able to be dismantled easily and removed without permanent damage to the surrounding environment.
