Australian Amalgamated Terminals (or AAT) manage port facilities on Australia’s east coast, handling various cargoes including import and export motor vehicles, general cargo and sea containers. A range of terminal services are offered at these facilities by AAT including crane hire, cargo receival and delivery, short, medium and long term storage (by arrangement) and motor vehicles inspections.
Appleton Dock is an international shipping facility in Melbourne, Victoria. The dock has been operational for over 60 years and operates as a multi-purpose general cargo facility catering for general, bulk and project cargo and containers. AAT’s Appleton Terminal encompasses four wharves along Yarra River and has a total area of 10 hectares.
AAT urgently required warehouse space at the Dock in 2016. They needed a solution that would not damage the tarmac and could be delivered and installed in a very short timeframe without sacrificing size.
DomeShelter Australia were approached for their simple and thorough procurement process. AAT were supplied a 30m wide by 61m long Container Mounted DomeShelter™ Structure with a full scope of inclusions, which was designed, manufactured, delivered and installed in less than 12 weeks.
Disturbance to the existing subsurface was minimised by incorporating containers filled with ballast to provide the required hold down tonnage. The other inclusions were:
- 2x fully closed Endwalls
- Industrial grade roller doors
- Personal access doors
- 10x 40ft shipping containers
- Lighting
The completed Shelter provides over 1800 square metres of enclosed and weatherproof storage space to protect people and assets at Appleton Dock.
